The Dodgers have been on a bit of a roll lately, and they continued their winning streak with a 5-3 win over the Padres.

The Padre game postponed is an event that happened on Sunday, June 3rd. It was the first of a three-game series between the Dodgers and Padres.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (AP) – The surging Los Angeles Dodgers finally got to rejoice after 16 innings that lasted 5 hours, 49 minutes and included 489 pitches from 19 pitchers who stranded a total 35 baserunners.

The Dodgers beat the struggling San Diego Padres 5-3 in the longest big league game since pandemic rules were introduced last year, with AJ Pollock leading off the 16th inning with a two-run homer.

Since MLB started placing an automatic runner on second base to open extra innings during the shorter 2020 season, no game has gone longer than 13 innings.

This one began on Wednesday evening and concluded at 12:59 a.m. on Thursday morning.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts remarked, “You can hear the enthusiasm, joy after the game.” “There were a lot of high-fives, maybe a few of beer showers, and the men were very high on adrenaline. Finding a method to win a game is all that matters. It should have counted as two, but it doesn’t.”

Pollock hit his 16th home run against rookie reliever Daniel Camarena (0-1), the Padres’ ninth pitcher. The Dodgers employed ten pitchers, including Corey Knebel (4-0) and Shane Greene, who recorded his first save in the 16th inning.

Greene was the 47th player in the game out of 52 on the two active rosters.

Pollock also had a huge game in Tuesday night’s 5-2 victory, robbing Manny Machado of a two-run homer while also hitting a two-run single.

During the coronavirus epidemic, the free runner on second rule was used to speed up the conclusion of lengthy games. But it took seven extra innings, including a 14th-inning stretch, to settle this one.

With successive RBI singles in the 15th inning, pinch-hitter Billy McKinney and Trea Turner gave the Dodgers a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom half, Fernando Tatis Jr. knotted it with a two-run homer to right field off Knebel, his NL-leading 35th.

Tatis’ home run was the Padres’ fourth of the season and their first since the sixth.

The Dodgers won their 11th game in a row. The Padres have dropped three consecutive and 11 of their last 13 games after squandering Blake Snell’s stellar start.

With runners in scoring position, the Dodgers went 5 for 27 while the Padres went 2 for 24. The Dodgers stranded 17 runners, while the Padres stranded 18.

The Dodgers had eight intentional walks, the highest by a major league club since 1955.

“There’s just so much to unpack,” Roberts said, “but coming away with the victory was huge.” “It was a wild game with all the guys we utilized, handling the deliberate walks, but a lot of positive things happened.”

Snell and Dodgers star Walker Buehler both pitched well, but they were both gone by the conclusion of the game.

In extra innings, the Padres ran out of position players and had to rely on pitchers Ryan Weathers and Joe Musgrove to pinch-hit. To finish the 11th, Musgrove struck out with the bases loaded, and Weathers hit into a force out to conclude the 13th. Roberts deliberately walked Machado and Jake Cronenworth each time to load the bases with two outs.

The Padres got themselves into difficulty when manager Jayce Tingler failed to double-switch rookie infielder Kim Ha-seong after utilizing him as a pinch-runner to open the 10th inning.

“We simply went with the flow. “Obviously, we were hoping to score runs and keep them off the board, and that’s exactly what we did,” Tingler said.

In extras, each side had a chance to win it.

Max Muncy was thrown out in the 12th inning and Will Smith was thrown out in the 13th inning in rundowns between third and home. In the 12th inning, San Diego’s Austin Adams got out of a bases-loaded jam when Smith flew out to center.

In the 10th inning, the Padres got a runner to third base with one out but were unable to bring him in.

After striking out Austin Nola for his 1,000th career strikeout, Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen threw a flawless ninth inning to hold the score knotted at 1 and send the game to extra innings.

Snell held the Dodgers at bay until Smith tied the game at 1 in the eighth inning with a home run to left-center on the lefty’s 116th pitch. Tingler got the hook on Snell after he struck out his tenth batter, Cody Bellinger. Daniel Hudson entered the game and struck out Albert Pujols in the pinch.

In 7 2/3 innings, Snell fired a career-high 122 pitches, his longest performance. Before Justin Turner hit, he retired the first 11 batters. The lefty only gave up three hits while striking out none. It was his first start since Game 6 of the 2020 World Series, when he was removed with a 1-0 lead against the Dodgers by Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash. Los Angeles came back to win the game and the championship series.

Snell’s outstanding performance came only two days after pitching coach Larry Rothschild was dismissed by the Padres. Snell, who was acquired in a deal with the Tampa Bay Rays just after Christmas, has had an up-and-down season.

Buehler pitched well as well, allowing just an unearned run and three hits across six and a third innings while striking out eight and walking only one batter. He was replaced by Joe Kelly, who had come off the disabled list before the game, after delivering the game’s first walk to Wil Myers with two outs in the seventh inning.

The Padres returned the favor a night after Pollock robbed Machado of a two-run homer. In the second, Myers made a stunning leaping catch at the left-field fence to prevent Corey Seager from hitting an opposite-field home run, and in the fourth, Gold Glove winner Trent Grisham grabbed Muncy’s smash at the top of the fence.

With two outs in the second, Myers beat out a chopper down the third-base line for an RBI infield single.
