GTA Online is a mess and should be shut down in favour of GTA 6

GTA Online is a mess and should be shut down in favour of GTA 6. There are many problems with the game such as glitches, bugs, and other issues that make it not worth playing.

GTA Online has grown obsolete and clunky, according to one reader, and Rockstar should replace it with a next-gen successor right now.

So, Grand Theft Auto 5 is coming to Xbox One X/S and PlayStation 5 this winter, which means it’ll be one of the few video games to be published three generations in a row (I don’t believe Tetris qualifies since it’s usually somewhat different each time). I have many issues with this, but the one I want to discuss today is how it will further delay the release of Grand Theft Auto 6.

It’s been eight years since Rockstar published a new Grand Theft Auto game, and it shows. The visuals have kept up nicely, and the narrative mode still has a lot of interesting content, but the fighting and driving are both abysmal. It was never fantastic, and despite Rockstar’s tinkering with it over the years, it’s stayed sub-par and continues to look worse and worse in comparison to contemporary games that really know what they’re doing when it comes to that kind of gameplay.

GTA has always had this issue – it used to be lot worse – but most people don’t mind since you used to play it for the narrative and freedom, and multiplayer wasn’t really a thing back then. But now it is, and GTA Online is making so much money that it is all Rockstar is interested in (we would have gotten narrative DLC by now if it wasn’t).

However, you can’t claim that GTA Online isn’t updated often enough. It is continuously receiving fresh material, both large and tiny (though, since the epidemic, mainly small) and… It’s completely messed up the game. I recall a time when Grand Theft Auto was really grounded and realistic. It wasn’t a simulation, but it seemed to be attempting one, and it wasn’t a crazy fantasy or sci-fi game. Nowadays, though, it’s overrun with flying vehicles and motorcycles, and everyone has a submarine. It’s all a circus.

When I go into GTA Online these days, it seems like I’m playing Roblox for adults, with hundreds of totally unrelated minigames and extras destroying any feeling of immersion or coherence. I’m sure Rockstar thinks they’re catering to every kind of gamer, but there’s one group they’re forgetting about: GTA fans.

Whatever GTA Online has evolved into, and I’m not saying it’s not amazing in its own right, it’s a far cry from the open-world criminal game it once was. It’s now a kind of everything simulator, the ultimate Jack of all crafts who claims to be able to do everything but never does any of it properly.

There’s only one clear solution to this, which you already predicted from my title: trash it all, give it its golden handshake, and bring in a successor. I’m not sure if there will be a GTA 6, because I’m not sure Rockstar wants to spend so much time and money on the less profitable half of the game, but let’s imagine a best-case scenario in which GTA 6 functions similarly to GTA 5, with both a single-player campaign and an open world multiplayer game.

If you do that, you’ll be able to start again with a clean slate, enhance the controls and handling, and remove all of the dumb immersion-breaking mini-games and vehicles (they’ll return eventually, but maybe not for a few years). Plus, the visuals will clearly be lot better, and we’ll get a new city and all the extras.

As far as I’m concerned, this should have happened yesterday, but Rockstar has given no indication that they’ll be doing anything in the near future, leading me to think the reports regarding a 2025 release date are correct. I really hope it isn’t because it means four more years of terrible GTA Online.
